Clear state goals and tracking mechanisms create momentum and accountability to scale clean buildings.
Washington has ambitious statutory goals for economy-wide emissions reductions by 2050, but not specific reduction targets for buildings, transportation, industry, or agriculture. Working backwards from 95% emission reduction by 2050, specific goals for the building sector would guide the scale and type of changes that are needed across all other actions. Setting sector-specific goals is critical as a North Star for clean buildings transition efforts to align with specific deadlines and create accountability.
